Visiting Scholar Program

The Research Institute of Korean Studies (RIKS) runs a visiting scholar program, with the aim of establishing a network between domestic and overseas Korean Studies researchers, and of promoting academic exchange. Selected scholars are appointed visiting researchers and are permitted to use the KU libraries and the research facilities in RIKS.

 

1. RIKS Visiting Scholar Program

Major Field of Study Korean Studies
Eligibility Ph.D. student researchers at overseas universities and research institutes, or those who hold a Ph.D. degree in this field from overseas universities
Application Period Year-round (expected duration of the selection process: about two months)
Required Documents Application form, CV, and a recommendation letter from hosting professor at Korea University (required for Ph.D. students)

2. Pony Chung Fellowship Research Professor

Major Field of Study Korean Studies
Eligibility 1. Foreign researchers with a Ph.D. in Korean Studies
2. Applicants must have obtained a Ph.D. degree no longer than five years prior to the beginning of the program
3. Priority given to applicants with concrete plans to publish their research with a foreign university within three years of completing the program
Application Period May to June each year (expected duration of the selection process: about three months)
Required Documents CV, research proposal, and a recommendation letter (from academic advisor or a respected scholar)
Research Fund

1. Pony Chung Fellowship fund: up to KRW 50,000,000
(including coverage costs for four major insurance policies and severance payment)

2. Publication Subsidy: KRW 10,000,000 (provided upon publication)

3. Appointed as research professor by President of KU
