About ICKS - The International Center for Korean Studies at Korea University was established in May 2003 to oversee, coordinate, and supervise research projects on Korean Studies within the university. The center’s primary goal is to promote Korean Studies in the fields of humanities and social sciences and to foster an international network of Korean Studies scholars. Leveraging a robust research infrastructure and a team of distinguished researchers, the center supports diverse research projects, organizes academic conferences and special lectures, and publishes academic books related to Korean Studies. The center’s specific objectives include:
- - Globalizing Korean Studies, specifically focusing on humanities and social sciences
- - Publishing and disseminating Korean Studies research
- - Facilitating exchange and collaboration among Korean Studies scholars and research groups worldwide
- - Establishing a global information network for Korean Studies

Key Programs
AAS-in-ASIA is an international academic conference on Asian studies co-hosted annually since 2014 by the Association for Asian Studies (AAS) and academic institutions in Asia. In 2017, Korea University's RIKS co-hosted the conference under the theme "Asia at the Crossroads: Beyond Borders and Boundaries,” hosting over 900 presenters from 35 countries and a total of 1,500 participants. This event serves as a platform for researchers to share their work and exchange perspectives on Asian studies.

3. Cross-Currents: East Asian History and Culture Review

Co-published by Korea University’s RIKS and the Institute of East Asian Studies at UC Berkeley, this English journal serves as a bridge between East Asian studies in Anglosphere and Asian academic communities. The journal covers topics in East Asian history, philosophy, literature, sociology, political science, and literature. Edited by Professor Sung-taek Cho(Korea University, Department of Philosophy) and Professor Wen-hsin Yeh (UC Berkeley, Institute of East Asian Studies), the journal is published quarterly online and biannually in print, featuring research articles, reviews, photo essays, and multimedia resources. It has been indexed in Scopus since August 2016.

6. Korean Studies Foreign Publication Series
Launched in 2004 as part of Korea’s efforts to globalize Korean Studies, this program supports Korean Studies scholars worldwide in their foreign-language publications. Its goal is to expand the reach of Korean Studies and to promote studies related to Korea globally. This program actively encourages and supports domestic scholars to publish with major university presses in the U.S. and other English-speaking countries, to further broaden the global impact of Korean Studies and foster academic exchange. Although new applications are not currently being accepted, several projects remain ongoing.
